Richetti SpA had to rethink the entire security and safety concept after an unfortunate fire event at one of its production plants.

Maximum protection against intruders and rapid fire detection in the critical areas

Richetti SpA is an Italian co-packer company, specialized in the production of chilled and frozen snacks for the food service and retail channels. The final consumer satisfaction is always at the heart of their development and production process. With this in mind, Richetti creates not only snacks, but mostly solutions, aiming to satisfy the diversity and the varieties of the needs and the strategy of their clients. However, after a serious fire that happened in one of the production plants, Richetti had to make fundamental changes to the installed security and safety systems. Since the business contact has been already established with Bosch Packaging Technology, the solution was right in front of their eyes.

Video-based fire detection for production safety

A few years ago, Richetti had a serious fire in one of its production plants. After the event, they decided to improve the security and safety systems of each location. Richetti’s main goal was to achieve precise control and total surveillance over the interior of the logistics department, but installing a reliable system to protect the plant from external intrusion, as well as to avoid fires inside the production area were also crucial. AVIOTEC video-based fire detection was one of the first proposals for early and reliable detection of smoke and flames, because the system features a unique physical detection model that ensures the reliable differentiation of disturbances and real fires, providing a reliable solution against costly false alarms. After a test phase that demonstrated the functionality of this special solution, three AVIOTEC devices were installed in critical areas of the plant - two special cameras along the production line and one in the warehouse near the cardboard stock.

The surveillance system of the plant was outdated and limited, thus it could not guarantee safe and secure operations. A high-performance video surveillance system including twenty FLEXIDOME IP starlight 7000 VR cameras with built-in Video Analytics were installed for both perimeter protection and indoor surveillance of critical areas, such as the warehouse and the logistics area. Most of the perimeter has limited lighting, but it means no challenge to the Bosch cameras that provide clear images 24/7 – even at night or under low-light conditions thanks to the latest sensor technology combined with the sophisticated noise suppression that result in an exceptional sensitivity in color (down to 0.017 lx) and the monochrome mode (down to 0.0057 lx).

Managing systems with ease

A DIVAR IP 3000 system running the full Bosch Video Management System solution has been installed in the company's control room, so Richetti finally can guarantee high security standards to their international partners. The DIVAR IP 3000 appliance utilizes a highly energy efficient embedded design at a very affordable price which nevertheless boasts Bosch quality through-and-through. On the other hand, Bosch Video Management System manages all IP and digital video and audio, plus all the security data being transmitted across the IP network. It seamlessly combines IP cameras and encoders, provides system-wide event and alarm management, system health monitoring, user and priority management. On top of the state-of-the-art solutions, a single supplier for both security and safety systems with products that ensure protection inside and outside the plant is a real business advantage of Richetti.
