New version of Intelligent Insights enhances report functionality and adds an API interface

Crowd detection allows for the accurate and simple set-up of a serious and critical crowd level in a percentage of the given area. Once combined with one or multiple intelligent cameras from Bosch featuring built-in Video Analytics, users will be informed instantly when this serious or critical level is reached to take informed decisions. The applications are numerous, but obvious examples could be train station platforms or areas in front of escalators and elevators that frequently tend to attract crowds, but don’t demand the requirement of exact people counting.

If exact counting is required to determine occupancy levels, Occupancy counting is the right solution. It has the ability to register the exact number of objects or people within the field of view of one or multiple cameras covering the area of interest. The user can easily specify the capacity limits within the area by setting the maximum number of objects or people that are allowed within a given time. Once the pre-defined capacity is reached, users are informed instantly, or alerts or public announcements can be activated using a camera relay. By making use of the camera’s built-in Camera Trainer technology, Occupancy counting can also be tailored to meet specific customer requirements. For example, to count unoccupied parking spaces and advise when and where spaces might be available. An ideal application for this is a parking lot without a ticketing system (e.g. company parking lot).

The Area fill level counts people or objects that enter and leave an area at every entrance and exit and calculates the corresponding fill level in percentages. This widget is used when cameras can’t completely cover the desired area. Users can specify the serious and critical occupancy rate of an area by determining the maximum number of objects or people that are allowed to be in the area within a given time. The widget intuitively changes color once the area's threshold reaches maximum capacity. Cameras need to be installed at all entrances and exits to the area to capture the fill level fully. When a threshold is reached, the Area fill level can activate and trigger a connected device that will inform visitors with a simple alert or public announcement.

The Area fill level traffic light offers an intuitive graphical interface that helps users comply with social distancing regulatory requirements during a crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The widget visualizes the current and maximum number of people allowed in a particular area at a specific time. It illustrates three different states – normal, serious, and critical – as green, yellow, or red, along with corresponding info text, so the user instantly knows when to take action.

Users can opt to live stream the Area fill level traffic light widget on a monitor at an entrance to a supermarket or grocery store, for example, to inform customers whether they may enter the store. When a threshold is reached, the widget can activate and trigger a connected device that will inform visitors with a simple alert or public announcement.

A simple but valuable tool is the ability to accurately count people. The People counting function allows for simple, accurate counting of people who cross a preset virtual line within a predefined time period, using one or multiple cameras. It has the ability to visualize two counters in one widget and is therefore able to reflect the number of people counted from both directions simultaneously. Typical applications are entrances to buildings, allowing users to see immediately if there is a sudden or unusual increased flow of people, which could be an indication of a security issue.

Similar to People counting, Object counting counts (customer-specific) objects in a predefined time period. Users can easily define a critical threshold or number of objects crossing a designated line to immediately see when this limit is exceeded. A typical application for Object counting is vehicle monitoring at crossroads with traffic lights, offering the ability to register the peak and low traffic periods. Object counting can be complemented with Intelligent Insights’ reporting functionality, offering users the ability to easily compare the traffic volume on specific days and times over a longer period of time.

For applications such as perimeter security, providing users with an overview of all objects that are moving in a certain area at all times is crucial. With the Object positioning widget, users can get a real-time overview of all objects that are moving along the perimeter. Based on their GPS position, which is determined by cameras featuring built-in Video Analytics, the objects are plotted onto a map and are smartly classified in the form of icons such as people, cars, trucks or bikes. This provides a clear overview, to identify potential security risks, without revealing personal details and conforms to the strictest privacy protocols.
